Green County Circuit Court

Green County is part of Kentucky's unified court system. The primary trial court for serious Green County matters is Circuit Court. Circuit Court has general jurisdiction and may hear all types of cases unless Kentucky law gives exclusive jurisdiction to another court, such as District Court. Green County Trial Courts

Green County does not have a long list of separate numbered local trial courts. Kentucky trial-court work in the county is organized through Circuit Court and District Court at the Green County Judicial Center, with the same Circuit Court Clerk office serving as the public records and filing counter. The distinction is jurisdictional: Circuit Court handles the higher-level matters, while District Court handles limited-jurisdiction matters.

Circuit vs District Court

Circuit Court and District Court are both trial courts, but they do different work. A Green County felony may begin in District Court for an arraignment or probable-cause hearing, then move to Circuit Court after indictment or bind-over. A misdemeanor usually remains in District Court. A divorce is a Circuit Court matter, while probate of wills is usually a District Court matter unless the matter becomes contested or otherwise falls within Circuit Court authority.

The County Clerk should not be treated as a third trial court. The Green County Clerk keeps county records such as deeds, mortgages, liens, legal recordings, marriage-license records, eCCLIX land records, Doc Alert registration, elections, and vehicle records. That office may hold documents useful to an estate or judgment search, but it does not keep the official Circuit Court case file.

Green County Case Flow

Criminal case flow depends on charge level. A citation, complaint, arrest, or warrant may start the process. Misdemeanor and violation matters usually remain in District Court for arraignment, pretrial, plea, trial, disposition, payment, or review. Felony cases may start in District Court for first appearance and probable cause, then proceed to Circuit Court after indictment or bind-over for arraignment, motions, plea or trial, disposition, and sentencing.

Civil case flow also depends on the claim. A larger civil case, divorce, title dispute, or injunction may start in Circuit Court with a complaint or petition, then move through service, answer, motions, discovery, hearings, settlement, trial, judgment, and appeal. Smaller claims and lower-value civil cases may start in District Court, with appeals going to Circuit Court.

Green County Judges

Full case files, certified copies, stored records, and restricted-record questions should go to the Green County Circuit Court Clerk.

Remote Court and Rules

The official Green County KCOJ page links Zoom sessions for District Court, Division I, Judge Amy S. Anderson, and District Court, Division 2, Judge Mike Hall Jr. It also tells users to consult the 11th District Local Rules to determine who may attend court remotely. A public docket date or Zoom link does not mean remote appearance is available for every person or case.

Remote attendance questions should be raised before the hearing date. Court records, copies, payments, and case-file requests do not move to a different custodian when a hearing is remote. The Green County Circuit Court Clerk remains the public office for local Circuit and District Court record questions, and the docket should be checked again if a remote setting, continuance, or local-rule issue may affect appearance.

District Court in Green County

District Court remains important even though Circuit Court is the primary trial-court page for this project. Many public searches start in District Court because traffic tickets, misdemeanors, violations, city and county ordinances, probate of wills, small claims, juvenile matters, felony first appearances, domestic violence cases, and mental-health commitments are District Court matters. A felony record may show both District Court early-stage activity and Circuit Court prosecution.

No separate Green County municipal-court case-search system was located in official sources. City ordinance matters route through District Court or city enforcement channels. For city office context, the City of Greensburg lists local courthouse-area offices, but active trial court records should still be checked through Kentucky Court of Justice systems and the Green County Circuit Court Clerk.
